Art provides solace when the mind becomes crowded
Pride #1
Acrylic ink and watercolour. Inspired by early career working in Brighton. Little did I know that Brighton would then feature throughout my life for many reasons.
Respect me
Chalk on black paper. Only about the second time I tried something simple on black paper. I love the way it reverses everything.
Norfolk marshes
Watercolour. My first ever picture actually painted whilst outside - the day started ok but you could feel and see what was in store.
Through the trees
Pastel and charcoal on coloured paper. One of my first ever pictures. I lost myself in this picture and was a very healing process for me at that time.
Side street
Watercolour and ink. First street scene and enjoyed the process. However, would do it differently now.
George #1
Chalk on black paper. A labour of love for many reasons. The misunderstood George Michael, every song a fibre of his life and probably mine. The painting was a gift for one of my best friends.
Chinese tree 1
Ink. Love working with ink and on trees. This is a double picture with another Chinese tree.
Xmas trees
Watercolour. Love using the paper as the snow and then bringing in the colour for the sky and trees.
Dragon fruit
Watercolour. A very quick piece taking in the wonderful and unusual colours of the extraordinary dragon fruit.
Corfe Castle
Watercolour. Love Corfe Castle and this is a view from afar and an early piece will be doing another.
Hen
Watercolour. Loved doing this as this was about speed and took very little time. For me this is getting the paint down and bringing out the features as quickly as you can.
Pride #2
Acrylic in and watercolour. Had fun doing this second piece around pride colours. A personal piece that brings in George Michael’s Flawless lyrics.
Tree
Ink. Just love ink and trees. Definitely more to come.
Lilly of the valley
Watercolour on white paper. Building up the layers was key to this piece.
Still life
Oil pastel. First using oil pastel and this takes some serious work. Working the oil pastel round and round to build up the piece.
Coloured houses
Watercolour. A first building piece and enjoyed the using a roller as part of this.
Seashell
Acrylic. My first acrylic and a contemporary style. This was challenging as it took me to seeing the sea and sand differently in block colour.
Xmas dawn
Watercolour. My first Xmas painting and almost one of my first pictures. My ignorance was that I cut this down despite putting masking tape around it. I love the very English scene though.
Still day
Watercolour.
Cock
Watercolour. Love the fact this is watercolour due to its brightness. Layering brings this together and using brushes and other things to imprint marks.
Still on the hill
Early watercolour with splashes of ink.
Summer verge
Watercolour. Bringing out the brightness of the height of an English summer.
Fishing boat at sunset
Watercolour. Quickly put down on paper as was outside trying to capture the many turning colours of a sunset. This was on the coast at Norfolk.
Beyond
Charcoal. This was already produced by another artist but loved the atmosphere they captured so wanted to try myself.
Petals
Watercolour. Older piece and will be working on some more of these in the future.
Free
Pastel. Very fast piece and did two of these in a very short time. I love capturing the wildness and freedom of the horses spirit.
Clucking together
Pastel. One of my first pastels.
Horizons
Acrylic on paper. Little experience with acrylic so this was a first on paper. More to learn on seascapes.
Mick
Pencil. Wonderful to draw as so much history in this face.
Waves
Acrylic on paper.
Castle on the coast
Watercolour and ink.
